On April 5, the Crawford County Sheriff’s Department received a report of Bryant Swiggum, 29, La Crosse, being at a residence in the village of Gays Mills threatening to damage property. Deputies responded and located Swiggum operating a 2002 Honda Accord on Main Street. Swiggum pulled over and parked and attempted to enter a downtown business. Contact was made with Swiggum who exhibited signs of drug use.

The Crawford County K-9 Unit was requested and responded to conduct an evaluation on Swiggum. The deputy determined that Swiggum was under the influence of one or more controlled substances and was placed under arrest. Swiggum resisted the deputies and struck an investigator in the face with an elbow before being detained.

K-9 Breck was utilized for open free air sniff of Swiggum’s vehicle and alerted to the presence of one or more controlled substances within the vehicle. A search of the vehicle yielded a hypodermic needle with liquid inside, which later tested positive for methamphetamine.

Swiggum was transported to the Crawford County Jail and subsequently charged with operating with a restricted controlled substance (second offense), possession of methamphetamine, possession of methamphetamine paraphernalia, resisting arrest and bail jumping due to several open active cases from La Crosse County.
