Darwin E. Bishell, 83, of Prairie du Chien, passed away Tuesday, April 3, at the Orchard Manor Care Center in Lancaster. 

 

He was born Nov. 6, 1934, in Lancaster, the son of Earl and Verle (Hoffman) Bishell. He married Margaret Prew on Feb. 23, 1963, in Lancaster. He worked for Finney Implement and later farmed for over 35 years in rural Lancaster. Darwin enjoyed fishing, woodworking and loved to dance. 

 

He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Margaret, of Prairie du Chien; his children, Karla (Jeremy Kessenich) Ott, of Mt. Horeb, Taryl (Tammy) Bishell, of Belleville, and Tracy (Amy) Bishell, of Verona; his sister Shirley (Paul) Clauer, of Cassville; his grandchildren, Alina, Austen, Samantha, Alle and Tiffany; and a nephew, Dennis Clauer. 

 

He was preceded in death by his parents; a niece Kathy Clauer; and a son-in-law Jerome Ott.

 

A private burial service will be held at the Evergreen Cemetery in Prairie du Chien. A gathering for family and friends to celebrate Darwin’s life will held on Saturday, April 21, from 2 to 4 p.m., at Huckleberry’s in Prairie du Chien. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to the Alzheimer’s & Dementia Alliance of Wisconsin, the National Kidney Foundation or Grant County Hospice. The family would like to thank the staff of Crossing Rivers Health, Orchard Manor and Grant County Hospice for the care and compassion they provided during Darwin’s illness. The Garrity Funeral Home of Prairie du Chien is assisting the family.
