On Feb. 12, at 8:51 p.m., the Crawford County Communications Center received a report of a man who punched a passenger of a vehicle and then jumped out of the vehicle while moving on Highway 131 south of County S in the township of Haney. The reporting party stated he was unable to locate the man.

At 8:59 p.m., a motorist, who was unaware of the initial report, called the Crawford County Communications Center and stated he was traveling on Highway 131 south of County Road S when he came upon a man along the road, so he stopped to offer him a ride. The motorist stated that when he arrived at his residence on Haney Valley Road, the man refused to get out of his truck. A deputy responded to the scene and was told by the motorist that the man punched him in the face two times, once while driving and again when they reached their destination.

The deputy made contact with the suspect, Charles A. Slaght, 38, Fennimore. Slaght is on parole for possession of narcotics and violated the terms of his supervision. Slaght was placed under arrest for disorderly conduct and a parole hold and then transported to Crossing Rivers Health for medical evaluation. He was later transported to the Crawford County Jail for the booking process.
