Prairie Grapplers Triumphant
Blackhawk wrestlers
are Regional Champions
The 2017-2018 Prairie du Chien wrestling team continues to make history. On Saturday, Feb. 10, PDC hosted a WIAA Division 2 Regional for the first time in school history. They also won a WIAA Division 2 Regional for the first time in school history.
On a day filled with plenty of excitement, the Blackhawk grapplers remained focused with their eyes on the prize. This was something the team had circled on the calendar at the beginning of the season.
In the opening round, Isaac Avery and Jerrod Osterkamp both picked up big wins to set the tone for the day that was to be for the Blackhawks. From there on out, the Blackhawks would be a very stingy group. The Blackhawks would go 9-4 in the semifinal round, and 6-3 in the finals.
One of the highlights of the finals was the three Blackhawk seniors (Blake Garcia, Nick Rogge, Stephen Ronnfeldt) picking up Regional Championships in their final match on the PDC wrestling mat. Once the dust settled, PDC scored 249.5 points to finish in first. Team scores were:
1. Prairie du Chien: 249.5
2. River Valley: 191
3. Dodgeville: 170
4. Richland Center: 138
5. Cuba City: 101
6. Mount Horeb: 89
7. Belmont/Platteville: 73
By finishing first, PDC advances to Team Sectionals. Viroqua will be the host, and PDC will wrestle Lodi at 6 p.m. on Tuesday evening.
Individual results were:
