Cecil E. Olson, 70, of Prairie du Chien, passed away Friday, Jan. 12, at the Gundersen Health Systems in La Crosse, after a brief illness. 

 

He was born May 25, 1947, in Prairie du Chien, the son of Otto and Dorcas (Schaal) Olson. He married Mary Cull on June 5, 1965, at the St. Lawrence O’Toole Church in Mt. Hope, WI. Cecil worked for the Ribstone Silo Company and later for the FS Plant in Prairie du Chien. Most recently he worked as a carpenter for Steiner Construction in Prairie du Chien. He was an avid hunter and fisherman, he especially enjoyed ice fishing. Cecil loved his native Prairie du Chien, and it’s history, being very proud of his heritage. 

 

He is survived by his wife of almost 53 years, Mary Olson; his children, Lesa (Dave) Barbour, of Pequosan, Va., and Robert (Brandee) Olson, of Seneca; his beloved grandchildren, Samantha, Brooke, Layla, Alexis, Taylor and Warren; beloved great grandchildren, Meah and Madison; his brothers, Lester (Joy) and Lary (Ada) Olson, both of Prairie du Chien; his sisters, Linda Peters, of Iowa, and Betty Olson, of Prairie du Chien; along with his beloved dog Isabelle. 

 

He was preceded in death by his parents and a daughter Sheila Olson.

 

A memorial service will be Wednesday, Jan. 17, at 11 a.m., at the Garrity Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. James Weighner officiating. Interment will be later in the St. Lawrence O’Toole Cemetery in Mt. Hope. Friends may call at the funeral home on Wednesday from 9 a.m. until the time of services.
