PdC Wrestlers beat River Valley

Fourth ranked PdC beats number 6 River Valley
The Prairie du Chien grapplers traveled to River Valley Thursday, Jan. 4 for a huge conference dual against a powerful River Valley team that is currently ranked sixth in the state in Division 2. PdC, ranked 4th in the state in Division 2, would show no fear on the road. Each team had seven medalists last weekend at Bi-State. Not only are both teams ranked, each team has several ranked wrestlers, returning state qualifiers, placewinners, and a champion.
The match would start at 182# where Zach Swiggum would score a quick takedown on a passby. Once Zach broke his opponent down, he was able to put a wing in and secure the far side wrist. Working that pressure, Zach would turn his opponent and score a first period fall to set the tone for PdC.
At 195#, Stephen Ronnfeldt would meet a very solid opponent. He would shuck his opponent for a first period takedown. At the end of one period, it was 2-1 in favor of Ronnfeldt. In periods two and three, the two wrestlers would exchange three escapes and two takedowns. Ronnfeldt would win 9-8 to put PdC up 9-0.
At 220#, Colten Wall would use a first-period takedown to deck his opponent with an outside cradle for the fall to put PdC up 15-0. Jerrod Osterkamp would receive a forfeit at 285#.
At 106#, Matt Rogge would win a battle of ranked wrestlers 3-2. Rogge would score a first-period reversal off of a Valley takedown. In period two, Rogge would get an escape before riding his opponent out all of period three to put Prairie up 24-0.
At 113#, Chase Fisher would run into a state-ranked buzzsaw and lose by fall.
Keenan Holley received a forfeit at 120# to put PdC up 30-6.
At 126#, Bradyn Saint wrestled a tough ranked opponent. Saint would lose 8-4, but not before wearing his opponent down with two stalling points in the third period.
At 132#, another battle of ranked wrestlers would take it down to the wire. Reid Koenig would toe the line with a returning state placewinner but come up just short in a 15-14 decision.
PdC forfeited at 138#. At 145#, Traeton Saint would score a second period escape in a tight 1-0 match to put PdC up 33-18. At 152#, Tyler Smock showed resilience after being down 14-4. Smock would score a reversal into a pinning combination for a fall.
Nick Rogge received a forfeit at 160#, and PdC forfeited at 170# for a final score of 45 - 24 in favor of Prairie du Chien.
PdC’s next competition will be a conference dual at home on Thursday, Jan. 11 vs. Lancaster. It will also by youth/alumni night. On Saturday, Jan. 13, the Blackhawks will travel to the Stevens Point Duals.
