Kathryn Anne Hinkel, 91 died Friday, Dec. 29, at the Good Samaritan Center in Waukon. 

 

Kathryn was born Dec. 23, 1926, in Marquette, to Sylvester and Leona Tayek. Leona passed away when Kathryn was a child and Kathryn was then raised by her Aunt Mae Connell. She received her education in Marquette, graduating from Marquette High School.

 

On Jan. 25, 1946, she was united in marriage with Richard Hinkel at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, McGregor. Kathryn worked as a Nurse’s Aide at the Beaumont Nursing Home in Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin. She then worked at the Marquette Café and later worked at Casey’s in Marquette. 

 

Kathryn enjoyed bingo, playing cards, taking trips to Colorado to visit family and enjoyed pulling pranks on friends. She spent her last years loved and well cared for by the nurses and staff at The Good Samaritan Center in Waukon.

 

Kathryn is survived by her son Lee (Kymm) Hinkel, of Waukon; three grandchildren, Eric Hinkel, Sarah (Drew) Hager, Brooke (Steve) Weighner; and eight great-grandchildren. 

 

Kathryn was preceded in death by her parents, Sylvester and Leona Tayek; her aunt, Mae Connell; husband Richard, in 2005; and a son, Bruce, in 2009.

 

Burial will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial may be given to the family. The Thornburg-Grau Funeral Home and Cremation Service is in charge of arrangements.
