Marcella L. Gildner, 96, of Austin, Minn., formerly of Guttenberg, passed away Friday, Nov. 10, 2017, at Comfortcare Good Samaritan Center in Austin, Minn.

Interment was in the Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery in Manly on Tuesday, Nov. 14.

Marcella Louise was born July 24, 1921, near Manly in Worth County. She graduated with the Class of 1939 from Manly High School. After graduation, Marcella drove a bread truck in Mason City during WWII. In 1944, she was united in marriage to Lester R. Gildner at the rectory of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Mason City. Her husband’s career moved them to various communities in the Midwest including the Iowa communities of Fort Dodge, Spencer, Mason City and Bettendorf, then Minneapolis, Minn., and Waukegan, Ill. They spent the first few years of retirement in Brownsville, Texas before settling in Guttenberg. Marcella was a faithful volunteer for the Guttenberg Food Bank, and a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Guttenberg. She was an accomplished acrylic painter, and an ‘expert’ Yahtzee competitor. Marcella dearly loved her family and friends, and had a special place in her heart for pets. She was the ‘best mother-in-law in the world,’ and brought a little bit of sunshine into the lives of all who knew her. 

Marcella is survived by her daughters, Dianna (David) Jacobsen of Gurnee, Ill., Terrie (Tom) Leake of Austin, Minn.; grandchildren, Christa Jacobsen and Tom Jacobsen, and Travis Leake and Matthew Leake; nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; brothers, Edward (Cora Mae) Yezek and Leo (Marian) Yezek; and grandson, Michael Jacobsen.

Memorials in Marcella’s memory may be directed to the Mower County Humane Society in Austin, Minn.
