 Pearl Agnes Schaefers, age 77, of Guttenberg, IA, died Thursday, November 16, 2017, at the Guttenberg Care Center. She was born on February 18, 1940, in Dubuque, Iowa, the daughter of Nicholas and Anna (Naber) Gaul.

Pearl was united in marriage with Francis Schaefers on October 15, 1960, at St. Francis Xavier Church in Dyersville and this union blessed them with seven children. Pearl farmed with her husband and made a home for her family for many years. Pearl’s greatest joy was spending time with her children, grandchildren and many friends. She was a very active member at St. Mary’s Catholic Church. She enjoyed sewing, embroidery work, gardening, praying the rosary, making puzzles, going for walks, helping with many funeral dinners with St. Anne’s Society, she was also a member of the Red Hat Society and the Domino Ladies, and was a member of the Christian Experience Weekend (CEW)

Pearl is survived by her seven children, Michael Schaefers, Jerry (Lynda) Schaefers, Andy Schaefers, Marie (LeVirgil) Monroe, Elizabeth “Betty” (Tom) Callan, Christopher (Brenda) Schaefers and Alex (Teresa) Schaefers; 26 grandchildren; siblings, Sylvester Gaul, Gwen Healey, Mary Lou Meyers, Ruth Hilkin, Karl Gaul, Julie Bradley, Cy Gaul, Mark Gaul and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband in 2005, grandson, Lee Smith; siblings, Rose Gansemer, Bernard and Leon Gaul.

Arrangements are being handled by Tuecke-Allyn Funeral Home, Guttenberg, where the family received friends from 2 to 6 p.m., Sunday, November 19, and one hour before service at church.  Funeral service was at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Guttenberg at 10:30 a.m. Monday November 20, 2017, with Rev Marvin Bries officiating. Committal service was at Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery, Volga, IA at 2 p.m.
