Kevin Michael Nugent, 51, died on Sept. 15, at his home in Key West, Fla., from Cardiac Arrest. He is listed as a casualty of Hurricane Irma by the Monroe County (Fla.) medical examiner.

 

Kevin was born at St. Mary’s Hospital, Madison, on March 2, 1966, to Jeanne (Feally) Nugent and William “Nick” Nugent. The family moved to Tomah in April of 1967. Kevin attended St. Mary’s Catholic grade school and Tomah Senior High School graduating with the class of 1984. He graduated from UW-Oshkosh with a degree in Finance and Economics. For over eight years, he was a member of the Wisconsin Army National Guard as part of the 107th Maintenance Company of the 732nd Maintenance BN, headquartered in Tomah, where he achieved the rank of SGT. In 1994, he moved to Key West where he worked in the service industry most notably at Margaritaville and later for The Hogs Breath Saloon until his retirement. 

 

Kevin loved to hunt, fish, play euchre, trivia, Bocce ball and street hockey. He was a member of the Green Parrot Kayak Society of Key West where the group kayaked through the Mangroves picking up trash raising funds for local charities. Kevin was an avid Wisconsin Badger, Green Bay Packer, Marlins, and New York Yankee fan. His favorite time of year was Fantasy Fest in Key West and he loved to dress in costume for all the festivities.

 

Survivors include his parents William “Nick” Nugent of Prairie du Chien, and Jeanne (Paul Syron) Nugent, of Tomah; sister, Kristen (Joel) Strozewski, of Lakeville, Minn.; niece Katelyn L’ Heureux (Cory Allen), of Manchester, N.H.; niece-in-law, Emma Strozewski; nephews, Dylan and Liam Tetley and nephew-in-laws, Arlo and Ian Strozewski, all of Lakeville, Minn.; aunts Catherine “Kay” (Patrick) Lorenz and Mary (Ronald) Jones, of Prairie du Chien, Jane (Randy) Wunderlin, of Potosi, Rita Nugent, of McGregor, Iowa, Marilyn (Don) Dorsch, of Green Bay; uncles Thom (Trish) Feally, of Coral Springs, Fla., and John Nugent, of Prairie du Chien; and many cousins, great nieces and nephews, and friends.

 

He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Arthur and Alice Feally; paternal grandparents Dr. William and Sylvia Nugent; three siblings who died at birth; cousins, Brandon Lorenz and Peter Feally; and his beloved dog “Lily.”

 

A memorial service was held on Oct. 7, at the Basilica of St. Mary Star of the Sea followed by a celebration of life at Shimp Daddy’s in Key West. The Dean-Lopez Funeral Home in Key West assisted the family with arrangements. There will be a Celebration of Life at St. Mary Queen of Apostles Catholic Church, 303 W. Monroe Street, Tomah, WI, with Mass on Saturday, Nov. 11, at 11 a.m., with military honors, followed by a luncheon at Hiawatha Golf Club, 10229 Ellsworth Road, Tomah, WI. Visitation is at the Church from 10 a.m. until the time of services. Per his request, Kevin was cremated and a private burial will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred.
