Lorna Friedlein, 84, of McGregor, Iowa died Saturday, Oct. 28, at Great River Care Center, McGregor, Iowa. 

 

Lorna M. was born March 4, 1933, to Herbert and Esther (Benzing) Schlitter in rural Rossville, Iowa. Lorna was united in marriage with Floyd Friedlein on Sept. 3, 1951. In 1954, they took up farming with Floyd’s parents on the Friedlein family farm in rural McGregor, where they raised their three sons. 

 

While on the farm, Lorna enjoyed gardening, gathering nuts and berries, as well as raising many chickens, ducks and rabbits.

 

In 1989 Lorna and her husband retired from the farm and moved to Monona, Iowa. She continued to gather and sell nuts and take care of her own garden, as well as her neighbor’s garden. She enjoyed helping many elderly friends and neighbors in Monona. Lorna moved to the Great River Care Center, McGregor, in December of 2012.

 

Lorna is survived by her sons, Roger (Janet) Friedlein, of McGregor, Iowa, and Alan (Cathy) Friedlein, of Monona, Iowa; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and one sister, Dorothy Dittman, of Waukon, Iowa.

 

Lorna was preceded in death by her parents, Herbert and Esther Schlitter; husband of fifty years, Floyd; and her oldest son, Stanley.

 

Visitation will be Thursday, Nov. 2, from 4 to 7 p.m., at Leonard-Grau Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Monona, Iowa and one hour before services at the funeral home on Friday. Funeral Services will be at 10:30 a.m., on Friday, Nov. 3, at Leonard-Grau Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Monona, Iowa, with Rev. Gary Hatcher as the Officiant. Burial will follow at Monona Cemetery, Monona, Iowa. Leonard-Grau Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Monona, Iowa, is helping the family with the arrangements.
