Wauzeka-Steuben runner earns trip to State Meet

A member of the Wauzeka-Steuben High School boys’ cross country team has earned a berth in the Wisconsin State Cross Country Meet to be held in Wisconsin Rapids on Saturday, Oct. 28.

Sophomore Jacob Reichmann finished ninth at the Fennimore Sectional on Saturday in a time of 18:37.6 over the 5,000-meter course to become the fifth individual boy at the sectional to earn a trip to the state meet. 

“Jake has been really working hard this season, as well as all of his teammates, to create the best team we could possibly be,” said Wauzeka-Steuben Coach Ben Dums. “They have all been challenging each other to earn their respected spot on the team, and Jake benefitted from those challenges in a great way on Saturday by earning a trip to the state meet. Jake finished as the fifth individual qualifier with a time of 18:37.6. I, and the entire community, are so proud of Jake (and his whole team, boys and girls) for all they have accomplished this season.”

As a team, the Wauzeka-Steuben boys were sixth at the Fennimore Sectional with 194 points. There were 18 teams in the boys’ meet. Tyler Walters was 12th in 19:03.3. Zach Martin was 56th in 20:48.3. Drew Zimmerman was 57th in 20:49.0. Reed Stenner was 60th in 20:57.2. Adam Martin was 79th in 21:32.0. 

The River Ridge boys were 14th with 311 points.

Brett Kerscher was 21st in 19:29.0. Brad Hoffman was 28th in 19:42.7. Bryly Clark was 65th in 21:03.1. Sam White was 98th in 22:42.2. Jon Breuer was 99th in 22:43.4. Isaac White was 108th in 23:24.4. Kyle Adrian was 113th in 24:02.1. 

River Ridge was 10th in the girls’ race with 293 points. There were 17 teams in the girls’ meet. Tova Lindbers was 29th in 23:53.4. Glenna Marshall was 49th in 25:45.6. Faith Webb was 50th in 25:46.4. Olivia Meyer was 73rd in 28:47.8. Ashton Marshall was 92nd in 32:14.2.

The Wauzeka-Steuben girls were 15th with 378 points.

Cherish Marfilius was 56th in a time of 26:26.2. Allison Oswald was 60th in 26:56.8. Haley Atkinson was 82nd in 29:35.7. Molly Asleson was 83rd in 29:38.6. Aim Rookachi was 97th in 34:18.0.
