Saturday Celebrate family in costume and check out Prairie du Chien’s downtown with the annual Trick or Treat Downtown, Saturday, Oct. 28, from 1 to 3 p.m.

Find the traditional orange pumpkin in each participating business’ window, designating which establishments have agreed to open their doors to young trick or treaters and their families. Participants will hand out candy and other treats. Businesses start at Radio Shack and Nelson True Value and spread down Blackhawk Avenue to Walgreens, Bob’s Bar, The Local Oven, Panka’s Shoe Store, Jim’s Bar, Something for Everyone, JC Party Store, Althof’s, Rockweiler’s, Wall Street, Catholic Charities, A Cut Above, Ideal Decorating/Café Hope, The Pickett Fence, Sports World, Starks Sport Shop, Broken Ladder, Planted Tree, Sawmill, Muddy Waters Pizza Pub, Ft. Mulligan’s, Rowdy’s and AmericInn.

Children should be accompanied by an adult.

Before the buckets and bags are filled with goodies from these generous businesses, families are encouraged to also attend a Kids Costume Contest. The event will take place under the Halls of Terror tent on St. Feriole Island, with registration at noon and judging at 12:30 p.m. This opportunity is open to any costumed youngster, age 0-12. Scream Xtreme and the Prairie du Chien Police Department are sponsoring the contest.

Immediately following the announcement of best costumes, the Halls of Terror will begin its kid-friendly, lights-on haunt until 6 p.m. Lights-off Halls of Terror will then run from 7 to 10:30 p.m.

Come out in a favorite or unique costume Saturday and spend the day in downtown Prairie du Chien. Enjoy the small-town atmosphere and spooktacular fun while learning more about what the area has to offer.
