Belva Alicia (Hosch) Becker
Belva Alicia (Hosch) Becker, 89, of New Albin, Iowa died on Oct. 18, at Thornton Manor Nursing Home in Lansing, Iowa.
Belva was born on Feb. 18, 1928, to Peter and Inez (Woods) Hosch. She grew up in New Albin and was a graduate of New Albin High School in 1946. Belva married Henry “Hank” Becker on April 8, 1947, and they raised two children in New Albin, Iowa. She worked at New Albin Savings Bank for many years. She was known throughout the area as a fine seamstress and sewed clothing for herself and doll clothes for her grandchildren. She crocheted many afghans and 100s of kitchen towels. She was most proud of the 97 beautiful quilts created over the years, each hand quilted with perfect stitching. Her family will also remember her homemade bread and famous caramel rolls.
Belva is survived by her son, Robert Becker (Nancy), of Prairie du Chien; son-in-law, Daniel “Joe” Meehan, of Holmen; grandchildren, Trina Lenz (Dwight), of Holmen, Angela Wagner (Josh), of Wauzeka, and Juli Smith (Heath), of Prairie du Chien; great-grandchildren, Derick, Allie, Brett, Cody, Landon, Briar and Quinn. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Henry; daughter, Donna “Susie” Meehan; brothers, Leon, Orval and Donald; and sister, Dorothy.
Visitation will be held from 1 p.m. until time of services on Friday, Oct. 20, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, New Albin, Iowa. Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 2 p.m., at St. Joseph Catholic Church, New Albin, Iowa, with Rev. John Moser as the Celebrant. Inurnment will follow at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, New Albin, Iowa. Thornburg-Grau Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Lansing, Iowa is helping the family with arrangements.
