beats Salam School
The Prairie du Chien boys soccer team began Regional Tournament action Tuesday hosting the Salam School Stars from Milwaukee.
The Hawks scored early, 6:22 into the game. Clayton DuCharme arched a pass in front of the goal where Ben Teynor timed his jump perfectly and headed the ball in.
In the 15th minute, Ramon Gonzalez sent a driving lead to DuCharme who finished with a nice shot and a second score.
In the 32nd minute, Anthony Irvine launched a long ball from near mid field to the front right of the goal where a charging Ben La Haie pounded it in for the finish.
At the 43:03 mark, Hunter Domeier took a corner kick from the left. The ball arched perfectly and curved into the bottom left corner of the goal for Prairie’s fourth and a commanding 4-0 lead at the half.
Ten minutes into the second half, Blake Garcia took a Hunter Domeier pass on the run and drove it in for a fifth Blackhawk score.
Prairie continued to control the ball until the 74th minute when Salam found a crease and scored.
Ben Teynor retaliated in the 80th minute driving from mid field and in for the score, his second and the team’s sixth. The score 6-1 score stood till the 90 minute whistle.
The strong defense, led by Isaac Nichols, Blake Garcia, Ben Teynor and Anthony Irvine, with rotating support from Sam Peterson and Joey Gourdin, dominated the Stars’ offensive attacks throughout the game resulting in only two saves on the night by goalie Ryan Thein.
The win moves the Blackhawks forward in the State Tournament drive. Thursday, they travel the long haul to Wind Point on the shore of Lake Michigan and face the number two ranked Prairie School Prairie Hawks.
