Sylvia Marie Schaub, 96, of Guttenberg, died Sunday, Oct. 1, 2017, at the Guttenberg Care Center.

Funeral services were Wednesday, Oct. 4, at St. John's Lutheran Church, conducted by Rev. Shane Anderson. Visitation was before services at the church.

Interment was at the Guttenberg City Cemetery.

Sylvia was born on Oct. 23, 1920, in Lodomillo Township in Clayton County, the daughter of Nathanial and Alice Hammond. 

Sylvia received her education locally and on June 3, 1942, she was united in marriage with Elmer Frederick Schaub at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Littleport. Sylvia spent many years preparing meals for children who attended school in Guttenberg. She was a longtime member of St. John’s Church and Dorcas Circle. She thoroughly enjoyed crocheting, knitting and spending time with her family and friends. 

Sylvia is survived by her two children, Diane Loeffelholz and Fred (Brenda) Schaub; four grandchildren, Jeff Loeffelholz, Diana Loeffelholz, Cheri (John) McAuliffe and Michelle (Levi) Gieseke; seven great-grandchildren, Ben and T.J. Henderson, Elizabeth McAuliffe, Piper and Sadie Loeffelholz, Miles and Stephanie Gieseke; sister, Bernita; brother, LeRoy “Tex” Hammond and many other relatives and friends.

Sylvia was preceded in death by her parents, husband Elmer on Jan. 15, 2004; granddaughter, Stephanie Schaub and son-in-law, Gene Loeffelholz.
