Prairie soccer opens season

with tough loss to Driftless United

The Prairie du Chien boys soccer team hosted the Driftless United Club team from Viroqua Tuesday night for their season and home opener.

The Blackhawks played hard against the quick United team and the defensive line of Issac Nichols, Sam Peterson, Blake Garcia and Ben Teynor held them scoreless until the 29th minute when Driftless slipped in the first score of the match.

Prairie countered in 35th minute. Weston Hill delivered a nice pass through the center to Preston Hendrix. Preston drove past two Driftless defenders, then with a quick fake led the goalie right and delivered the scoring shot into the left corner of the net. The tie score of 1-1 held till the halftime break.

The Driftless team’s experience and well executed ball control took charge the second half and led to United scoring in the 41st, 53rd and 87th and winning the game 4-1.

Sophomore goalie Ryan Thein, in his high school debut, had an outstanding night with 28 saves. Great appreciation to all the fans for their support on another beautiful night on the Bluff View pitch.  The Blackhawks travel to West Salem Saturday to take on the Panthers. Kick off is 10 a.m.
