Crozier nominated for 2017 Superintendent of the Year

MFL MarMac Superintendent Dr. Dale Crozier was recognized as a nominee for the School Administrators of Iowa (SAI) 2017 Superintendent of the Year award at a ceremony Aug. 2.
“Each AEA nominates a superintendent,” said Crozier, who was the representative from the Keystone Area Education Agency. “Your peers nominate you, so that’s always cool.”
Crozier, who’s also the superintendent at Eastern Allamakee, has served at MFL MarMac for 17 years. This is the second time he’s been nominated for the award.
Also nominated was Rob Cordes, from the Carroll Community School District. Benton Community School District’s Gary Zittergruen, who Crozier noted is a Garnavillo native, was named superintendent of the year.
Crozier credited those around him at both MFL MarMac and Eastern Allamakee—the staff, school boards and students—for his success over the years.
“The award is not about me. It’s about everyone else,” he shared. “Leadership is a shared thing—it’s everyone working together.”
“I like to hire people who are smarter and more talented then I am,” he added, “people who think outside the box and think differently than me.”
The school boards for both districts, Crozier said, have been pro-education and taken an active role at the schools, complementing the work done by teaching and support staff.
“It all matters a lot,” he noted, in providing students with the best possible education and learning environment.
“It’s cliche to say kids come first,” Crozier admitted, “but I really believe that. I hope people know that.”
