Work continues to go along quite efficiently on the $8,866,400 River Ridge School District building addition and upgrade.

This week, in the new addition, Kraemer Brothers poured the first floor concrete in the south classrooms, said District Administrator Dr. Jeff Athey. Kraemer Brothers, of Plain, Wis., the general contractor for the project, is continuing to prepare the underslab for the next floor pours for next week. They have been working on the brick veneer for the gymnasium and are finishing up the block bearing wall on the north side of the gym.

Athey said they have been working on the roof blocking and steel stud parapet walls on the gymnasium roof. The roofer began installing the low roof on the southeast corner. The air and vapor barrier is going around the gym and the north side of the addition.

The plumber has been installing hangers and piping in the ceiling space. The electrician is installing conduit for lighting and power in the ceiling space and finishing floor boxes.

In the remodeling portion of the project, Athey said that the heating, ventilation and air conditioning contractor is installing unit ventilators and piping for the unit ventilators in the high school. Plumbing work is being done in the teachers’ break room and for bathroom piping.

Panels have been installed in the basement to run the power for the unit ventilators, and conduit and boxes have been installed in the masonry wall.

Athey said that demolition in the 2001 addition is finishing up, as well as the setting of door frames in the ag shop, the elementary rooms, and the alcoves in the choir room.

Block walls are being laid in the teachers’ lounge and in the elementary school rooms.

New flooring in the weight room began on July 5. The new weight room equipment was delivered and assembled on July 11.

The high school gym floor was recently sanded, washed, and had two fresh coats of wax-sealant put on. The gym was made available for use again on July 11.

The new addition to the school will be 28,895 square feet and will house eight classrooms and a middle school gymnasium.

FEH Design of Dubuque is the architect for the project, which began on Feb. 27. The masonry phase of construction began on April 24. Athey said that during the 2017-2018 school year, the fifth and sixth grade students will be attending the school in Bloomington, just as they are now. After the Thanksgiving break, the fifth and sixth graders will then be going to the River Ridge building. All students will then be on one campus.

The project is expected to be completed by Nov. 10.
