After fading away in recent years, the Friends of the Library program has been resurrected, reassembled and is ready to dominate the fundraising game to support the Prairie du Chien Memorial Library.

“We want the organization to be much more active and interactive,” Barbara Davis, member of the Friends of the Library Board, stated. Since the return of the program, the organization has grown greatly in the community. The number of members is continuously increasing with help from a variety of membership drives.

The organization, which is a part of a larger, national program, is designed to help “support the growth of the library.” All profits from fundraisers go toward the local library, with a focus on its expansion at the current point in time.

Book sales are some of the main events upcoming for the Friends of the Library. One is annually held during Crazy Days, and at other various points in the year. In addition, raffles and different speaking events are being scheduled.

Davis stated she hopes to learn about the interests and ideas of the members. If some enjoy crafts or baking, she plans on holding fundraisers based around such hobbies. These ideas are shared at the frequent board meetings, which are open to the public.

Writers and reading clubs, along with other programs, are in the library’s future to help bring in new visitors. “We want people to be very aware of what the library is and does,” Davis said. “We hope they take advantage of the library.”

Everyone is welcome to join the Friends of the Library. Even if members do not have a great amount of time available, whatever they are able to give is highly appreciated. The organization hopes to gain as many members as possible and advance throughout the years, so they can help support the future endeavors of the library.

Members range in age and many families are involved. To become a member, forms are available at the Prairie du Chien Memorial Library. A small fee is required each year. For more information, call the library at (608) 326-6211 or visit www.pdcpubliclibrary.org.
