Herman Lee Cathman, 88, of Lancaster, formerly of Bagley, passed away Friday, June 30, at Atrium Post Acute Care.

Herman was born on July 17, 1928, in Bagley, to Willie and Birdie (Bohringer) Cathman. Herman lived and worked most of his life on the family farm in Bagley. He loved farming and all of the animals. His biggest enjoyment was farm equipment and going to auctions. He was also an avid car and truck enthusiast. He had an amazing memory of times gone past and always had good stories about events in his life. Herman worked very hard on the farm all his life, but enjoyed the simple relaxing life since moving off the farm. His favorite pass time was watching all the traffic out his window at the care center. He always said he had the best room in the place.

Herman is survived by two sisters Madonna Rieckens, of Minnesota, and Rozella (Russell) Kramer, of Iowa; two sisters-in-law Betty Cathman, of Fennimore, and Darlene Cathman, of Lancaster. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

Herman was preceded in death by his parents, Willie and Birdie; seven siblings Retha (Christian) Schnitzler, Louis (Thelma), Bernard, Burdette, his twin brother Herbert Lyle (Violet), Willis and Berlyn; and a brother-in-law, Bill Rieckens.

The family would like to thank the staff at Atrium Post Acute Care for helping Herman enjoy his time there, along with St. Croix Hospice for spending time with him in his last days. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, July 8, at noon at Martin Schwartz Funeral Home & Crematory, 1234 S Madison, Lancaster, with Pastor John Cathman officiating.  Burial will be in Blakes Prairie Cemetery, Bloomington Township. Family and friends may call on Saturday from 10 a.m. until time of services at the funeral home. In lieu of plants and flowers, a memorial fund has been established in Herman’s name. Online condolences may be left at www.martinschwartzfuneralhomes.com.
