A Wauzeka man lost his life in a van versus semi crash near Fennimore early Tuesday morning, according to the Grant County Sheriff’s Department.

At about 4:15 a.m., June 27, Lee Steinhorst, 33, was driving a 2003 Dodge Caravan north on Highway 61, two-tenths of a mile south of Greenwood Road, in Fennimore Township. His vehicle crossed the centerline into the southbound lane of traffic, colliding head-on with a semi tractor trailer, driven by David Olson, 61, of Houston, Minn. The vehicles came to rest in the roadway. Steinhorst was pronounced dead at the scene by the Grant County coroner. Olson was not injured, authorities said.

Boscobel and Fennimore Police, Fennimore Fire and EMS and the Wisconsin State Patrol assisted at the scene. The vehicles were removed by Doan’s Auto Body, of Fennimore, and Kieler Service Center, of Kieler. This crash remains under investigation.

According to the sheriff’s department, this is the third fatal crash in Grant County in 2017.
