The 24th annual Ridge and Valley Rally will be Saturday, July 8, at the Seneca Community Club town hall. Another year of fun for all ages is planned in Seneca for those who wish to spend their day in the little town. Citizens are invited to come out to this yearly fundraiser and show some pride in their community. All proceeds benefit the Seneca Community Club.

A 5K/10K walk-run will kick-off the day, with registration at 6:30 a.m., and the competition beginning at 7:30  a.m., between the two ball fields on Taylor Ridge Road. Early registration fees apply prior to July 1. To register now, visit http://senecarally.weebly.com/walkrun.html. Or, with questions, contact Myrna Stevenson at (608) 734-3650 or myrnas@centurytel.net.

The day’s big event, the parade, will travel down Main Street at 11 a.m., led by the 2017 King and Queen, Tim and Barb Boland. Tim was born and raised in Seneca. He and Barb have been greatly involved in the community since moving back several years ago.
For the parade, families and people of all ages will enjoy watching tractors, trucks and antique automobiles; local business and organization floats; Legion veterans; youth and other creative parade entries make their way down Main Street. Of course, there will be lots of candy in tow and a few surprises, according to Ica Boylen, one of the Ridge and Valley Rally coordinators.

Following the parade, from noon to 2 p.m., there will be a smoked pork chop dinner, with plenty of fix-in’s, for sale at the town hall. Fuel up with the delicious meal, which includes pork, potatoes, beans, cole slaw, dinner rolls and dessert bars. Then, buy a homemade pie at the 1 p.m. pie auction to satisfy that sweet tooth. Get involved in the bidding wars for some of the pies and have some fun doing so.

Also, at 1 p.m., the popular antique tractor pull will start. Smoke will be rolling as avid area pullers test their engines, power and tricks and compete for prizes and the best thrill of the audience.

At 4 p.m., event-goers may like participating in either the euchre tournament or the bean bag tournament for a small fee. Get a team together, register that day and challenge others looking for a good time.

Throughout the day, there will be a volleyball tournament too; contact Dawn Ray, (608) 734-3232, if you’d like to enter a team. In addition, there will be free kids’ games like a sawdust pile, races, etc., as well as white elephant bingo; just bring a gift to exchange and, if you get a bingo, take home another treasure.

Food and beverages will be available for purchase on the grounds all day. In addition to the pork dinner, there will be another food stand on the grounds selling sandwiches, taco salads and more. There are also restrooms and bleachers available.

“All the money raised goes right back into our community,” Boylen said. “It’s a day that’s really geared toward families. Come, bring the kids and have a good time.”

The Seneca Community Club assists numerous organizations and activities in Seneca, including the local fire department, first responders, school scholarships, flower pots, Christmas decorations and more.
