Pamela "Pam" Jean Handke Tuecke, 60, of Dubuque, passed away unexpectedly, but peacefully, at UnityPoint-Finley Hospital on Friday, June 23, 2017.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, June 28, from 3 to 8 p.m. at the Tuecke-Allyn Funeral Home of Guttenberg. A prayer service will take place at 7 p.m. at the funeral home.

Pam was born on Nov. 29, 1956, in Dubuque.

Pam married Donald (Don) Tuecke on May 11, 1974, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Guttenberg and together they had two children, Melissa and Todd. Pam and Don’s first date was at Lakeside Ballroom and Sports Bar in 1972 and it was “love at first sight.” Shortly after, they began courting.

She graduated in 1975 from Ed-Co High School, Edgewood.  Pam worked at Target for 26 years before retiring and enjoyed life to the fullest. Pam loved traveling and vacationing all over the country and world with her husband, visiting antique shops everywhere they went. She also loved history, reading about it, watching shows on television and touring historical sites.

Pam spent countless hours with her children, Melissa and Todd, and their children. Pam took great pride in being a mother and grandmother, bragging about them to everyone she met. She and her three grandchildren spent countless hours at her home and traveling enjoying bonfires, swimming and just hanging out. Pam was also an avid Chicago Cubs fan (since the age of 4) and lived to see them win the World Series in 2016.

Pam is survived by her husband, Don; two children, Melissa Benson and Todd (Karen) Tuecke; two grandchildren, Kristine and Kennedy Tuecke; dog, Amos; her mother, Lillian Phelps Handke; and seven siblings, Linda and Dennis Gardner, Roger and Maggie Handke, Pat and Layton Chettinger, Kathy and Scott Stewart, Peggy and Clyde Wagner, Gary and Penny Handke, and Marty and Joan Handke.

Pam was preceded in death by her father, Clarence M. Handke (1992); grandson, Austin L. Benson (2008) and brother-in-law, Lyle J. Tuecke (2013).

One of Pam’s wishes was to be an organ donor. The family is proud to say that the Iowa Donor Network successfully took organs on June 24, 2017. The family extends gratitude and thanks them for fulfilling her wishes and to continue to help others in life. Additional memorials will be given to an animal shelter of the family's choosing, per Pam’s wishes. Memorials can be sent to the Tuecke-Allyn Funeral Home or directly to the family.
