Evelyn F. Linderbaum, 96, of Monona, died Wednesday, June 21, 2017, at the Guttenberg Care Center, Guttenberg.

Funeral services were Saturday, June 24, at St. John Lutheran Church, Luana, conducted by Rev. Harold McMillin. Visitation was before services at the church.

Burial was at Monona Cemetery, Monona.

Arrangements were handled by Leonard-Grau Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Monona.

Evelyn was born the daughter of Roy and Abbie (Smith) Dunning on July 29, 1920, in Clayton County near Luana. Evelyn was baptized on June 11, 1922, and was confirmed at St. John Lutheran Church in Luana. She received her elementary education at North Grove School in Allamakee County and two years of high school at Luana Consolidated School. She finished her last two years in Postville High School and graduated with the Class of 1938. She taught school at Moneek Country School, No. 5 in Bloomfield Township in rural Castalia, as well as Burr Oak Country School. 

On Feb. 15, 1942, she was united in marriage to Lawrence C. Linderbaum in Decorah. After their marriage they farmed near Castalia until 1946 when they moved to an acreage west of Monona, residing there until 2005 when they retired to Monona. In April 2013 she moved to the Guttenberg Care Center. 

Evelyn was an active member of St. John Lutheran Church in Luana. She regularly attended Circle, serving two times as secretary as well as holding other offices in the Women of the ELCA. 

Evelyn enjoyed playing cards with friends and family, as well as spending summers fishing, gardening and visiting family. 

In addition to being a devoted wife, Evelyn was a dedicated mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who gave unselfishly in every way. She was never too busy to devote her full attention to her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She loved each and every one of them with all her heart, appreciated their individual personalities, encouraged their strengths, and made each of them feel so very special. She was always the best with hugs, encouragement and love. She was a great role model and had endless energy for interactions with friends and family. She will be greatly missed by all those whose lives she has touched, especially her family. Memories with her will be treasured always. 

Survivors include her husband, Lawrence; a daughter, Nancy (Douglas) Drahn of Oakdale, Minn.; a son, Dale (friend, Karin Bahls) Linderbaum of Monona; four grandchildren, Andrea (Sean)Barrett of Lakeville, Minn.; Anissa (Brock) Young of Lake Elmo, Minn.; Sarah (Mark) Kilburg of Ryan; Jennifer (Eric) Huinker of Grimes; nine great-grandchildren, Abbie and Evan Barrett; Evelyn, Joseph, and Samuel Young; Jacob and Elizabeth Kilburg, and Kaylee and Allen Huinker and many nieces and nephews.

Preceding her in death were her parents; an infant son, Gary Lee Linderbaum; a brother, Leslie Dunning; daughter-in-law, Mary Linderbaum and a sister, Marian Cook.
