The Monona Council, at its June 19 meeting, approved of the appointment of Heather Lange to fill the position on the council vacated last month by Randee Koenig.

City administrator Dan Canton said the appointment would last until the election this November. Lange could then serve the remainder of Koenig’s term, through 2019, if she chooses to run and is elected.

Speed sign

The council approved the purchase of another radar speed sign for the police department, at a cost of $2,732. The department got its first sign this past year and has found it helpful in cutting down on drivers speeding at the entrances into town.

City park restrooms

The council approved a resolution authorizing fundraising activities for a new restroom in the city park. The resolution will help in applying for grant funding, said mayor Fran Passmore.

Combat Veterans Motorcycle Run

The council authorized street closures for the Combat Veterans Patriots Motorcycle Run that will stop in the community on Saturday, July 8. Center Street, from Page Street to the railroad tracks, will be closed, as will Main Street from Iowa Street to Franklin Street.

Councilman John Elledge said the event drew 600 to 700 riders last year, but as many as 1,000 could be anticipated. The group will arrive in Monona around 1:30 p.m., he said, and stay until 3 p.m.

July meeting dates

Due to the Fourth of July holiday, the council’s meeting dates have been changed for the month. Meetings are now scheduled for Monday, July 10 and Monday, July 24.
