Mount Horeb defeats Prairie du Chien
Prairie du Chien’s baseball season came to an end in the Evansville Sectional Tuesday afternoon after the top seeded Vikings of Mount Horeb defeated the top seeded Blackhawks 6-4 in a WIAA Division 2 contest.
Mount Horeb scored 2 runs in the top of the first inning to grab a 2-0 lead.
The lead wouldn’t last for long as Prairie du Chien scored 4 times in the bottom of the second to go up 4-2.
The Vikings scored 1 run in the fourth to pull within 4-3. Mount Horeb would have scored more, if not for the stellar, diving catch by second baseman Gavin Gillitzer.
Mount Horeb scored 3 runs in the fifth to regain the lead at 6-4.
The Vikings shut out the Blackhawks the rest of the way to take the victory.
Mount Horeb had 11 hits and committed 2 errors. Prairie du Chien had 3 hits and committed 3 errors.
Chas Sagedahl was 1x3 for the Blackhawks. Drake Coleman was 1x2. Josh Lenzendorf was 1x3.
Sagedahl started and pitched 4 and 2/3 innings. He fanned 7 and walked 2 while giving up 7 hits and 3 earned runs. Cory Check came on in relief. He struck out 1 and walked 1 while surrendering 4 hits.
Prairie du Chien finished its season with a 20-3 overall record. The Blackhawks were 9-1 in the Southwest Wisconsin Conference and were conference co-champions with River Valley.
