Vernon Duane Gulbro, 77, of Guttenberg, died Sunday, April 30, 2017, at the Guttenberg Municipal Hospital.

Visitation was Thursday, May 4, at Tuecke-Allyn Funeral Home, Guttenberg.

Funeral services were Friday, May 5, at the Highland Lutheran Church, Spring Grove, Minn. 

Interment was at the Highland Lutheran Church Cemetery.

Vernon was born on June 28, 1939, in Spring Grove, Minn., the son of Edwin and Tinka Gulbro. 

Vernon graduated from high school in 1957 and worked for Kuhlman Construction for 33 years as a dump truck driver. Vern also farmed with his son Duane and enjoyed a beer after a good day’s work. Vern married Mary Lou Nieland until she passed in 2004. After retirement, Vern operated a salvage business until his passing. Vern enjoyed watching the Antique Road Show on PBS. He took pride in working and beautifying the junk yard where he had two of everything. Vern took pleasure in antique machinery, was very mechanically inclined and was a very helpful, honest and hardworking man. 

Vern is survived by his son Duane (Patty) Gulbro of Guttenberg; step-children, James (Becky) Klein of Guttenberg, Debra Klein of Colorado, Cindy Klein of Dubuque and Douglas Klein of Florida; five grandchildren, Allysa, Hillary, Kim, Kari and Vanessa; three great-grandchildren, Alivia, Chase and Ali.

Vern was preceded in death by his parents; wife in 2004 and brother, Everett Gulbro.
