Lyle J. Marfilius, 86, of Prairie du Chien, passed away on his 63rd wedding anniversary May 5, at the Crossing Rivers Hospital. 

 

He was born Aug. 2, 1930, in Prairie du Chien the son of Clarence and Martha (McCarthy) Marfilius. He married Roberta Gillitzer on May 5, 1954, at St. Gabriel’s Church. He and and his wife farmed in rural Prairie du Chien and were active members of St. Gabriel’s Parish, the Farm Bureau and several card clubs. Roberta preceded him in death on Jan. 12, 2015. 

 

He is survived by his children Bob, of Boscobel, Becky (Mick) Rooney, of Prairie du Chien, Randy, of Evansville, Ind., Rick, of Sheboygan, and Rod (Sandy), of Prairie du Chien; brothers-in-law, Jim (Joan) Gillitzer, of Madison, and Don (Karolyn) Gillitzer, of Prairie du Chien; a sister-in-law Sandi Marfilius, of Stanwood, Mich.; 18 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren and counting. 

 

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; his brothers Lewis (Faye), Donald, Kenneth and Richard; father and mother-in-law Bob and Carmen Gillitzer.

 

A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be Thursday, May 11, at 11 a.m., at St. Gabriel’s Church of the Holy Family Parish, Rev. James Weighner officiating, with interment in the Calvary Cemetery both in Prairie du Chien. Friends may call on Wednesday, May 10, from 4 to 8 p.m., at the Garrity Funeral Home in Prairie du Chien and at the church on Thursday from 10 a.m. until the time of services.  In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the Prairie Catholic Schools or the Holy Family Parish.
