Tammy R. (Riegel) Barton, 48, of Iowa City, passed away at home, Wednesday, Feb. 15, 2017, with her dalmation Zoey at her side.

Tammy was born July 14, 1968, in Dubuque, to Susan (Troester) Riegel.

Tammy recieved all her sacraments at St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Zearing. Step Grandfather Kenny Schmelzer and Grandmother Marjonell Schmelzer were Tammy's Godparents.

Tammy was married to Chet Barton on Sept. 21, 1990, at St. Gabriels Catholic Church in Ames. They later divorced.

Tammy attended Colo-Nesco High School and graduated in 1986. She then attended Mercy College of Health Sciences in Des Moines and graduated May 6, 1989, with her R.N.

Those left to cherish Tammy are her mother, Susan of Garnavillo; uncles and aunts, Dennis and Susan Troester of Key West, Richard Troester, Jeff Schmelzer, Doug Schmelzer, all of Elkader, Kathy (Todd) Ihde of Garnavillo; her sister-cousins, Misty and Emily Raye Troester of Monona; her childhood daycare provider and dear friend, Cathy Ralston of Cedar Rapids and her beloved dalmation, Zoey.

Tammy is preceeded in death by her maternal grandparents, Ray and Marjonell (Garaghty) Troester and step grandfather, Kenny Schmelzer; great-uncle and aunt, Francis and Mary Jo (Garaghty) Roche; aunt, Judith (Troester) Manning; cousins, Jared Mueller and Jarren Ray Moser; her dogs, rotweiller Bailey and dalmation Jazzmin.
