Final phase of skate park underway

By Ted Pennekamp

Construction of the final phase of the Prairie du Chien Skate Park is underway. The skate park is located at 1004 S. 15th St. near the Wacouta Aquatic Park and Fort Fun.

The skate park units will be installed on May 8 with slub slabs being done now and the rest of the concrete done thereafter by B & R Construction, said Parks and Recreation Director Mike Ulrich.

The American Ramp Company of Joplin, Mo. will be providing the eight additional units with a total final phase cost of $70,000 that was raised entirely by fund-raising and donations from the Children’s Advisory Board, said Ulrich. When completed, the stake park will have 13 different skate obstacles and be one of the largest skate parks in the Tri-
State Area, Ulrich said.

The first phase was a 4,399 square-foot complex provided to the community by fund-raising efforts and in-kind donations at a cost of $75,000. The final phase will bring 3,359 square feet of additional skating surface including eight more thrilling obstacles. The new addition will feature obstacles such as two quarter pipes, a bank ramp, a banana berm, two bat wings, a skate bench and a grindbox.

The skate park provides a positive and safe environment for the skateboarders, BMX bikers, and in-line skaters of Prairie du Chien and surrounding communities, Ulrich said.
