Clayton County Womenade hears quarterly update
Ten members of Clayton County Womenade heard a quarterly update when they met for a noon lunch in March at Kaffee 1858 in Guttenberg.
Womenade is a grassroots organization that gives monetary assistance to help others facing hardships. Referrals are made through established county agencies, family resources, schools and churches.
Members reviewed a spread sheet with an anonymous listing of donations, expenditures and reasons for need.
It was noted that Clayton County Womenade is now a 501c3 designated charity so donations are tax deductible. In addition, it is a designated recipient for Thrivent member Choice Dollars.
Discussion was held on possible sources for funding and grants. Members voted to proceed with an application to the Upper Mississippi Gaming Commission.
The group's pamphlet will be updated to reflect the non-profit and Thrivent member designations. A member volunteered to create a logo.
Discussion was held on ways to reach out to help those in need, reminding churches and agencies of this resource.
Members also discussed the "Tiny Pantry" idea. The concept is to provide boxes accessible to the public that contain basic food items. Those in need can get food anonymously. Also, donations can be anonymously put in the boxes 24/7.
The goal of Womenade is to provide immediate, confidential assistance to approved individuals in the county in time of hardship or when facing small stumbling blocks. For those wishing to help, donations can be sent or dropped off at Peoples State Bank, P.O. Box 430, Guttenberg, IA 52052. Make checks payable to Clayton County Womenade.
Kwik Trip donation
It was noted that Kwik Trip - Guttenberg provided $500 in gas cards to be disbursed to those in need.
