Carol A. Mumm, 66, of Bloomington, died unexpectedly on Monday, April 3, at Grant Regional Health Center in Lancaster surrounded by her caring family. 

 

She was born on Sept. 7, 1950, in Prairie du Chien, the daughter of Gerald and Dolores (White) Ploessl. Carol graduated from Bloomington High School in 1968. She then attended Madison Area Technical College in 1969. 

 

On Jan. 29, 1972, Carol was united in marriage to Thomas L. Mumm at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Bloomington. Together they raised four children and farmed in rural Bloomington until the fall of 1988. They later moved into Bloomington where they currently reside. Carol was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Bloomington. 

 

She was a stay-at-home mom, later employed at Shakeproof in Lancaster and then Unified Community Services where she was employed for over 20 years, retiring in 2014. Carol loved spending time with her family and friends. She enjoyed playing cards, board games, and watching the Milwaukee Brewers, Green Bay Packers, Wisconsin Badgers, HGTV and many cooking shows, of which, she tried many of the recipes. 

 

Carol dearly loved her family: her loving husband, four children, and five grandchildren. She was an amazing wife, mother, grandmother, sister, daughter and friend. Carol will be dearly missed.

 

Survivors include her loving husband of 45 years, Tom; their four children Jason and Adam, at home, Brian (Sharon) Mumm, Bloomington, Kelli (Steve) Pfenning, Prairie du Chien; five precious grandchildren Nicholas, Logan, and Alexis Mumm and Steven and Devon Pfenning; her siblings Peg (Doug) Vanderbilt, Marcia (Scott) Stiwel, Jane (Ernie) Dallam, Sheri Ott, Jerry Ploessl, Jeff (Tara Brickson) Ploessl, Gene (Kate) Ploessl, Kevin (Michelle) Ploessl; in-laws Charlene Ploessl, Janice (Dave) Anderson, Harry (Sandy) Mumm, Cindy (Phil) Nies, Cheryl (Tim) Spaeth; and many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.

 

In addition to her parents, Carol was preceded in death by a brother, Bill Ploessl; her mother and father-in-law, Carl and Delores Mumm; and her brothers-in-law: Dick Mumm and Jim Kolman.

 

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, April 8, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Bloomington, with Father John Meinholz officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Bloomington. Family and friends may call on Friday, April 7, from 4 until 7 p.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church where a 3:45 p.m. rosary will be prayed. Friends may also call on Saturday from 9:30 a.m. until time of services at the church. Martin Schwartz Funeral Home & Crematory in Bloomington is serving the family.
