Wayne Milton Scheppele departed this world to be with the Lord on March 15, 2017. He was born August 12, 1927, to Milton Louis Scheppele and Sylvia Mae Opel in Dubuque, Iowa. He graduated high school in May 1945 and enlisted in the U.S. Navy at the age of 17 where he served until the end of WWII. He graduated from the University of Dubuque in June 1950 with a bachelor of science degree with teaching credentials. He taught physical education, English, and speech at both Dubuque and Garnavillo high schools.
Wayne was born into the family of God on January 5, 1947, when he saw that he was a sinner and that Christ died to redeem sinners.
Wayne married Gladys Ivanelle Kregel on August 14, 1948. They settled on the Kregel family farm in Iowa and had eight children: James Arthur, Bonnie Lee, Jerry Wayne, Dan Paul, Mark Bruce, Diane Sylvia, Steven Scott, and Wayne Michael. Wayne and Gladys took in, loved and cared for many—some became part of the family such as Earl Hansen, and Ingrid Simm. He is survived by his two sisters: Janet Avenarius and Judy Trent both living in Dubuque, IA.
He and Gladys have 24 grandchildren, 49 great-grandchildren, and more on the way.
In 1978, he went to work as a writer/editor at John Deere and worked there until retirement (10 years).
Wayne was well known and respected for his knowledge of the Bible. He had a passionate love for the word of God and shared it with all that had a common interest and those who sought salvation.
He was preceded in death by his oldest daughter and son: Bonnie Lee and James Arthur.
Wayne will be lovingly remembered and greatly missed by his extended family and his many friends!
