Helene Louise Pritchett, 81, of Bloomington, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on Friday, March 10.

 

She was born on Sept. 12, 1935, in New Ulm, Minn., the daughter of Darrell H. and Cecelia A. (Schwengle) Marben. Helene graduated in 1953, as Valedictorian of her class from Lamberton High School. She furthered her education at Clark University in Dubuque, Iowa, and Stout College in Menominee where she earned a teaching certificate and a degree in home economics. Helene also obtained a degree in library science from the University of Wisconsin at Platteville. 

 

On July 27, 1957, she was united in marriage to Charles L. Pritchett in Minnesota. After their marriage, the couple made their home in Bloomington, where they spent their 53 years of marriage. Helene taught at West Grant and Bloomington high schools, retiring in 1991. She was a devoted member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, the Catholic Daughters, Christian Mothers, and the Salmagundi Club. Helene was an avid Green Bay Packers and Wisconsin Badgers fan. She enjoyed reading, flowers and baking. Helene dearly loved spending time with her family and had a wonderful sense of humor.

 

Helene is survived by her six children Timothy Pritchett, Silver Springs, Md., Tamara (Bob) Mecum, Minnetonka, Minn., Trent Pritchett, Bloomington, Thomas (Angie) Pritchett, Galena, Ill., Ted (Dana) Pritchett, Black Earth, and Leonard (Jenny) Pritchett, Bloomington; eleven grandchildren: Jeff (Stephanie) Pritchett, Steve (Hailey) Pritchett, Taylor, Paige, and Autumn Morfey, Ashley (Sonny) Sherman, Jon Mecum, Blake Stagman, Brynley, Pierce and Charli Rae Pritchett; four great-grandchildren: Jordin Pritchett, Kristi Meier, Jackson Pritchett, and Willow Morfey; two sisters, with whom, Helene had a special relationship: Janet Catherine (Cletus) Foy, Katie, Texas, and Mary Ann (Jon) Gislason, Marble Falls, Texas; other relatives; and many friends.

 

In addition to her parents, Helene was preceded in death by her husband, Charles on May 3, 2010, and her brothers: Richard Walter and Paul John Marben.

 

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, March 17, at 11 a.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Bloomington, with Father John Meinholz officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Bloomington. Family and friends may call on Thursday, March 16, from 5 to 8 p.m. where a 4:45 p.m. rosary will be prayed. Friends may also call on Friday from 10 a.m. until time of services at the church. Martin Schwartz Funeral Home & Crematory in Bloomington is entrusted with the services.
