John M. Straka, 83, of rural Wauzeka, passed away on Wednesday, March 8, as a result of a farm accident. 

 

He was born on Nov. 18, 1933, in Wauzeka Township, the son of Edward and Mary (Kelly) Straka. He married Donna Birkett on June 13, 1987, in Hazel Green. She preceded him in death on Nov. 13, 2011. John was a Army Veteran, he also worked at John Deere in Dubuque Iowa, for​ many​ years. 

 

He is survived by a daughter Kori Kruser, of Darlington; honorary son John DuCharme, of Wauzeka; three stepsons John (Dee Dee) Fields, of Benton, Jack (Missy) Fields, of West Harris, Ind., Tim (Becky) Fields, of Dickeyville; best buddies and grandsons Michael and Jacob Kruser, both of Darlington; nine other grandchildren; two great-grandchildren, three sisters Joanne Flones, of Elgin Ill., Dorothy Kastel, of​ Flower Mound, Texas, Darlene Oberhauser, of Mineral Point; and many nieces and nephews. 

 

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers Francis and Eddie Straka; and two sisters Liz Johnson and Mary Ellen Lawver. 

 

Funeral Services will be held on Monday, March 13, at 11 a.m. at the Kendall Funeral Home in Boscobel. Pastor Stan Pegram officiating. Burial in the Wauzeka Cemetery. Friends may call on Sunday, March 12, from 4 to 8 p.m., at the Kendall Funeral Home in Boscobel, and also on Monday from 10 a.m. until the time of services. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the family, and the family will distribute to John’s special organizations.
