Steuben man rescued from woods
On Monday, March 6, at 7:11 p.m., the Crawford County Sheriff’s Department received a report of a man who went into the woods and did not return home. The report came in from the area of Downing Lane outside of Steuben.
Bruce A. Downing, 62, Steuben, was shed antler hunting near his property on Downing Lane. While he was in the woods, he suffered an injury to his ankle. Downing was located at approximately 9 p.m. by members of a search party. Downing was given first aid and removed from the woods. Downing was transported to a nearby hospital for his injuries.

The sheriff’s department greatly appreciates everyone for a rapid response, a professional job and the effort given with the impending poor weather conditions.
