at Individual State Wrestling Tournament
Two Prairie du Chien wrestlers and one from River Ridge-Cassville competed in the State Individual Wrestling Tournament Thursday and Friday at the Kohl Center in Madison.
Prairie freshman Traeton Saint, wrestling at 132 pounds in Division 2, lost 5-3 to junior Tanner Deist (41-11) of Wautoma-Wild Rose in his first round match. Saint ended his season with a 40-10 record. It is the most wins ever by a Prairie du Chien freshman.
Stephen Ronnfeldt, a Prairie du Chien junior wrestling at 195 pounds in Division 2, beat Chris Storandt (37-10), an East Troy junior, 3-2 in his first round match on Thursday night.
Mathew Van Eperen, a senior from Wrightstown then pinned Ronnfeldt in 5:53 in the quarter finals on Friday. The match was tied 5-5 with 17 seconds remaining when Van Eperen (31-17) got the pin with a nice move from the bottom.
In the consolation semifinal, Hayden Arneson (34-8), a senior from Monroe, defeated Ronnfeldt 8-5. Ronnefeldt ended his junior season with a 40-10 record.
Ben Wheeler, a junior from River Ridge-Cassville wrestling at 285 pounds in Division 3, pinned Ben Drenski (22-9), a senior from Random Lake in 4:56 in the quarterfinal match on Friday.
In the championship semifinals, Donavan Salewski (39-0) from Coleman, defeated Wheeler 4-2. Salewski went on to become state champion.
Wheeler ended his season with a 37-12 record.
