River Ridge

is ‘joeystrong’

River Ridge blasted visiting Belmont 73-29 Tuesday night in a Six Rivers West boys basketball game.

The Timberwolves used a full court press to great effect to get numerous turnovers and easy baskets to break away and turn the game into a rout.

The Timberwolves improved to 2-1 in conference play and 2-4 overall. The Braves fell to 0-4 in the Six Rivers West and 0-8 on the season.

The game featured a benefit for Josheph Hamann, a 5-5 junior, and his family. Joey has been diagnosed with Ewing’s Sarcoma, a type of bone cancer. All of the River Ridge fans wore yellow T-shirts which said, “joeystrong” on the front  as part of “joeystrong night.”  Some in the student section held up signs showing their support. The team, the school and the community have rallied around Joey and his family. Several auctions an raffles took place before the game and at halftime. Joeystrong shirts were on sale in the hallway.

Joey played for a short time near the beginning of the game.

Joey, who will be 17, is scheduled for his second round of chemotherapy on Dec. 22.
