Robert Eugene Galleger went on eternal patrol on Dec. 13, at the age of 84. 

 

He was born in Emmetsburg, Iowa, on Feb. 26, 1932. Robert attended Emmetsburg Catholic School in Emmetsburg, Iowa; Sacred Heart School in Waterloo, Iowa; and Milwaukee School of Engineering in Milwaukee. He proudly served in the United States Navy from 1951–1955, and the United States Navy Reserve from 1955–1959 and 1964–1972.

 

He was a Life Member of (USSVI) United States Submarine Veterans Inc.; (VFW) Veterans of Foreign War; Sea Turtle Base-USSVI Corpus Christi Base; Iowa Base-USSVI Iowa Base; The Eagles Club and Coast Guard Auxiliary. 

 

He enjoyed Dixieland Jazz, riding his motorcycle, boating on the Mississippi River and traveling. His smiling Irish eyes and Irish whit will be greatly missed by everyone that knew him.

 

He is preceded in death by his parents, William Joseph and Monica Elizabeth Galleger; brothers, Gerald and Leroy Galleger; sister, Karen Railsback and her husband Tom.

 

Robert is survived by his wife, Ellen Galleger; sons, Patrick Robert and Thomas Edward Galleger, of Wisconsin; sister, Beverly Joblinske of Waterloo, Iowa; sisters in law, Jean Galleger, of Iowa, and Denise Galleger, of Wisconsin; grandson, Franco (Amanda) Maniscalco of Bethesda, Maryland; special nephews, Mike, Phil, Greg and many other nieces, nephews, and special cousin Billy Culligan.

 

Memorial Service will be held at Cage Mills Funeral Directors on Jan. 14, 2017, at 11 a.m. Inurnment will follow at a later date.
