A longtime Prairie du Chien businessman, Jon A. Burlingame, 75 passed away Thursday, Dec. 15, at the Crossing Rivers Hospital in Prairie du Chien. 

 

He was born July 3, 1941, in Elkader, Iowa, the son of Edward and Blanche (Bailey) Burlingame. He married Carol Nelson on Dec. 21, 1963, in Lincoln, Neb. Jon served in the US Air Force from 1963 until 1967. He was a talented musician who owned and operated the Main Entrance in Prairie du Chien for 27 years. He enjoyed giving budding musicians a chance to play at his establishment. 

 

He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Carol, of Prairie du Chien; his daughters, Ann (Dennis) Wagner, of Eau Claire, and Mary (Mathew) Stone, of Dubuque, Iowa; a son-in-law Ron Welke, of Lake Hallie; his brothers, Gary (Gloria), of Rock Island, Ill., and Robert (Betty), of Torrington, Wyom.; his sister Sandra (Carl) Hakert, of Elkader; his grandchildren, Jacob, Justin, Zachary, Megan, Samson and Jackson; along with a great grandchild Tanner. He was preceded in death by his daughter Joni Welke and his parents.

 

A celebration of Jon’s life will be Friday, Dec. 30, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Garrity Funeral Home in Prairie du Chien. Military honors will be accorded by the Prairie du Chien Honor Guard. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the River and Bluffs Animal Shelter.
