John Louis Fisher, 72, of Eastman, passed away Monday, Oct. 3, at the Mayo Franciscan Health Center in La Crosse, following a brief illness.

He was born Sept. 13, 1944, the son of Thomas and Florence (Martin) Fisher. He married Betty Trautsch on July 24, 1965, at St. Patrick’s Church in Seneca. John worked at General Motors in Janesville for four years before returning to farm in the Eastman area. He enjoyed his logging business and was known to many as “Doc.” He had recently retired and was enjoying his “wonderful life,” especially spending time with the loves of his life; his grandchildren. 

He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Betty Fisher, of Eastman; his children, Steve of Eastman, Christine Fisher of Holmen, Kathleen (Kurt) McHugh-Scharping, of Onalaska, and Melissa Kendhammer of Holmen; his brothers, Joe (Corrine), of Milton, , Tom (Joyce), of Seneca, Paul (Carolyn), of Janesville, Greg (Mary), Chuck (Barb) and Donnie (Mona), all of Eastman; his sisters, Jean (Mike) Boland, of Seneca, Mary Ann (Tom) Boland and Donna Starkey, both of Eastman, and Ann (Dave) Boylen, of Seneca; his grandchildren, Travis, Justin, Mikayla, Caden, Cohen; along with step grandchildren, Brandon and Amanda. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister-in-law, Karen Fisher.

A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be Saturday, Oct. 8, at 11 a.m. at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church, Eastman, Rev. Victor Feltes officiating, with burial in the church cemetery. Friends may call at the church on Saturday from 9 a.m. until the time of services. The Garrity Funeral Home of Prairie du Chien is assisting the family.
