Matthew Allan Gentz, 35, of Guttenberg, went home to be with the Lord, Sept. 6, 2016, at the University of Iowa Hospital.

Private gravesite services will be Saturday, Sept. 17, at 11:00 a.m. at the Edgewood Cemetery.

A celebration of life is being planned at Grace Evangelical Free Church in Elkader at a later date.

Matthew was born Sept. 25, 1980, at the Delaware County Hospital in Manchester to Harley Gentz of Postville and Joni Whaley of Elkader.

Matthew graduated from Central of Elkader and attended NICC. Presently he was employed at Premier Tool in Peosta.

Matthew will be remembered as a "Gentle giant." He enjoyed the outdoors, working on vehicles, gardening and being with family and friends.

Survivors include his parents; brother, Chad; one sister, Ashley; grandmother, Lorraine Boffeli; grandfather, Kenny Nading; aunts; uncles and cousins.

Matthew was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, Allan Boffeli; grandmother, Marge Nading; grandfather, Vernie Gentz and three uncles, Charles, Mike and Pat.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Matthew Gentz Memorial Fund, 31922 Eclipse Rd., Elkader, IA 52043.
