Ronald Meyer, 82, of Osterdock, died Thursday, July 14, 2016, at the University of Iowa Hospitals in Iowa City.

Visitation was Sunday, July 17, at Tuecke-Allyn Funeral Home, Guttenberg, and one hour before services at the church.

Funeral services were Monday, July 18, at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Garnavillo, conducted by Rev. Gary Hatcher.

Interment was at Bethel Cemetery, Osterdock.

Ron was born on July 8, 1934, in the home of his maternal grandmother, Annie Moser, the son of Clarence and Parthenia (Moser) Meyer.

Ron received his education from the local country school house and then from the Guttenberg High School. In November 1954, Ron began his service to his country in the U.S. Army serving overseas and received an honorable discharge on Oct. 13, 1956. After his time in the Army, Ron returned to Iowa and continued an already started long career of farming in the Osterdock area and he also sold seed corn to his local farmers for several years. In November of 1956, Ron was married to Marlene Amundson, with whom he had four children and then they later divorced. On Jan. 4, 1980, Ron was married to Gertie Scherf at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. Ron enjoyed farming and living in Osterdock with all the simplicity that it had to offer. All his life, Ron has been involved with music from playing drums to singing. Ron’s music experience began playing with his grandfather and his father and later with his son and many others throughout the years. 

Ron is survived by his wife of over 36 years, Gertie; four children, Deb (Dale) Gassman, Mark (Barb) Meyer, LuAnn (John) Hunt and Shawna (Wade) Helle; four step-children, Carl (Jacky) Funk, Cheryl (Stan) Whittle, Chris (Deb) Funk and Cathy (Loren) Foelske; grandchildren, Sara, Joe, Wayne, Melony, Eric, Mindy, Travis, Trevor and Adelyn; great-grandchildren, Karli, Layne, Alyssa, Morgan, Jake, Grace; step grandchildren, Carla, Augusta, Robert, William, Chad, Christopher, Amanda, Stacey, Josh, Jared, Ryan, Scott; step great-grandchildren, Kaylee, Jackson, Charlotte, Ezra, Richard, Levi, Daisy, Adelaide; one brother, Harlan (Shirley) Meyer; sister-in-law, Lola Meyer and many nieces, nephews, family and friends.

Ron was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Curt Meyer.
