John L. Kruse, 62, of Garber, died Wednesday, June 29, 2016.

Visitation was before services at the church.

Funeral services were Friday, July 8, at St. John's Lutheran Church, Guttenberg, conducted by Rev. Penny Hansel.

Interment will be at Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery at a later date.

Arrangements were handled by Tuecke-Allyn Funeral Home, Guttenberg.

John was born on May 3, 1954, in Guttenberg, the son of Harold and Lucile Kruse.

John attended school in Garnavillo and graduated with the class of 1972. John spent his entire life working on the farm that he grew up on. On Oct. 9, 1976, John was united in marriage with Mary Bates at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Guttenberg. With the exception of living with his new bride across the road from the Kruse farm for nine months, John  spent his life where he grew up and so John really never left home.

Farming wasn’t just a job to John, it was his way of life and his passion. He loved spending time hunting and following sports, especially the Boston Celtics, New York Yankees, San Francisco 49ers and the Iowa Hawkeyes. His first time flying was for the Capital One Bowl in 2005 where Iowa won the football game with a last second catch.

John will be forever loved and cherished by his wife Mary; children, Adam, Holly and Abby Kruse; siblings, Dorothy (Thomas) Weyant, Diana (Dennis) Henning, Marie (Lyle) Torrey and Jeanne Ronek and many other relatives and friends.

John was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Norbert Kruse and brother-in-law, Steve Ronek.
