Timothy J. Kuempel, 64, of Guttenberg, died Tuesday, June 21, 2016, at the University of Iowa Hospital in Iowa City.

Visitation was Friday, June 24, at Tuecke-Allyn Funeral Home, Guttenberg and one hour before services at the church.

Funeral services were Saturday, June 25, at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Guttenberg, conducted by  Rev. Richard G. Gaul. A reception immediately followed the funeral service in the St. Mary’s Church basement.

Tim was born on May 22, 1952, in Dubuque, the son of Robert "Bob" and Glee (Davis) Kuempel.

Tim received his education from the Guttenberg High School where he graduated with the class of 1970. Over the years, Tim worked for Carlson Construction in Decorah, Kuempel Plumbing and Heating in Guttenberg and spent 25 years working for Black Hills Energy. On June 16, 1979, Tim was united in marriage with Kathy Haag at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Guttenberg and they were later blessed with two sons, Matt and Brian.

Tim was a hard worker who instilled that in his sons. He was the one many went to for advice, problem solving and to fix whatever needed fixing. Tim enjoyed hunting and being outdoors and walking his dogs. Most of all, Tim enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandsons since he loved being called “Papa.”

Tim will always be loved and cherished by his wife of 37 years, Kathy; two sons, Matt (Megan Gates) Kuempel of Oelwein and Brian Kuempel of Woodward; grandchildren, Zach, Kelley and Bowen; two brothers, Pat Kuempel of Guttenberg and Peter (Isabel) Kuempel and son, Juan, of Leesburg, Va.; mother-in-law, Lorraine Haag of Monticello; sister-in-law, Linda (John) Pashek of Tomahawk, Wis; brother-in-law, Jeff (Pam) Haag of Cedar Rapids and many other relatives and friends.

Tim was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Susan.

Tim was known as a giving person and his final act of kindness was to give the gift of life through tissue donation.

In lieu of flowers and all types of sympathy, memorials are preferred.
