Bettie M. Mueller, 94, of Davenport, passed away on Wednesday, Nov. 25, 2015, at ManorCare Health Services-Utica Ridge. 

Bettie Marie DeHaven was born on July 11, 1921, in McGregor, Iowa, the daughter of Earle and Lucile (Edwards) DeHaven. In 1939, she married Fred Mueller in Independence, Iowa. He preceded her in death in 2012. Mrs. Mueller worked as a 911 radio operator for the Scott County Sheriff’s Department until her retirement in 1986. She was a member of St. Johns United Methodist Church, Davenport, and enjoyed singing in the choir in her younger years. Bettie loved music and sang to her family and friends and the staff at ManorCare.

Mrs. Mueller was the granddaughter of James and Eolah DeHaven. James DeHaven and his son Earle operated the DeHaven Livery in McGregor in the late 1800s and early 1900s. James was a civil war veteran who rode with Buffalo Bill Cody after the war to escort wagon trains through the territory. After his return to McGregor, James was a river boat pilot and also a musician who played several instruments by ear. James served as the town constable in McGregor for many years. 

Mrs. Mueller is survived by two daughters, Jeanine (Bud) Blevins and Diana Ohlensehlen, all of Davenport; two sons, Richard (Kathie) Mueller of Davenport and Rex Mueller of Fountain Hills, Ariz.; one son-in-law, Mark Hornbuckle; and 11 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Karen Hornbuckle; a brother, Glenn DeHaven; daughter-in-law, Debbie Mueller; two grandsons, Dreu Ohlensehlen and Marcus Mueller; and a great-grandson, Nathan Hornbuckle. It was Mrs. Mueller’s request to be buried next to her father and grandparents in McGregor.

Memorial services for Mrs. Mueller will be held on Saturday, June 25, at Pleasant Grove Cemetery in McGregor at 11:30 a.m. Grau Funeral Homes & Cremation Service is assisting the family with arrangements.
