In the weeks leading up to the June 7 primaries, the Register has published profiles of candidates in contested races. This week, we conclude our series with a profile of Ray Peterson, one of two Republicans in the Clayton County Board of Supervisors’ race. The other Republican candidate, Chad Freeman of Colesburg, did not respond to our repeated attempts to gather information for this series.

There are six candidates for the single seat being vacated by Larry Gibbs who is not running for re-election.

Ray Peterson, a Coleburg resident, is a Central High School graduate. He has worked in the construction field for 35 years, and has owned his own business—Ray’s Excavating, Edgewood—for 15 years. He has been married to Cathy Barnhart for 24 years, and has three stepchildren and seven grandchildren.
