Lyla LaVerne (Yttri) Watts, 72, passed away on May 5, at the Gundersen Health System in La Crosse surrounded by family and friends. 

Lyla was born in Chicago, Ill. on Jan. 19, 1944 to Wanda Iola (Copus) and Lyle Yttri. 

Lyla married Martin ComStock Jr. on Sept. 16, 1961 in Prairie du Chien. They had 4 daughters and a son but later divorced. She was engaged to Lester J. Berns, whom she spent many years with until his passing, they have one daughter together. On May 11, 1991 Lyla married James Watts in Prairie du Chien.

Lyla loved fishing, drawing, the outdoors, hunting for morel mushrooms, spending time with friends and family. Lyla also volunteered for the Head Start Program for many years. 

Lyla is survived by her children, Jean (Russell) Horn, Peoria, Ill., Jan (Al) Kussmaul, Luana, Iowa, Jualie (James) Kirby, La Crosse, JoLee (Larry) Boland, Prairie du Chien, Marty (Jerrie) ComStock, College Station, Texas, Danyell Comstock, Reedstown; nineteen grandchildren; nineteen great grandchildren; two brothers, Myron Yttri, Cedarburg, Jerry (Sharon) Yttri Retreat, Wis.; one sister, Madelene (Stanley) Jankowski, Wisconsin Rapids.

Lyla was proceeded in death by her parents; sisters, Ilene, Sherrell Lynn, Anita Knutson; brother-in-law, Rueben Knutson; brother, Terry; husband, James Watts; fiancé, Lester J. Berns; and ex-husband, Martin W. ComStock Jr.

The family would like to thank the wonderful staff at Gundersen Lutheran for all their care and patience.
