Kylie Zimmerman

Joel Martin

Kylie Zimmerman has been named the valedictorian and Joel Martin has been named the salutatorian of the Wauzeka-Steuben High School 2016 graduating class.

Kylie is the daughter of Dean and Kim Zimmerman. Kylie has been very active throughout her high school career while excelling academically. Kylie has earned academic honors all four years, earning herself four academic letters/pins for her excellence in the classroom. During her junior year, she attended Badger Girls State.

Furthermore, Kylie has been actively involved in a number of extra-curricular activities over the past four years. She has been a three-sport athlete throughout high school, participating in volleyball, basketball, and track all four years and earning multiple varsity letters in each. She has earned numerous accolades for her athletic talent and commitment. She has been named to the Ridge and Valley All-Conference first team in track and to the Ridge and Valley All-Conference honorable mention team in basketball. She was named most-improved varsity basketball player her sophomore year and was a sectional qualifier in track her freshman and junior years. In addition, Kylie has been very active in numerous clubs and organizations, including the National Honor Society, FCCLA, 4-H, forensics, and Hornet Club. Within these clubs and organizations, she has held numerous leadership positions over her high school career. Kylie has also been a three-time FCCLA national qualifier and a one-time state qualifier in forensics. She has served as a PALS mentor for younger students in the district, a juror for teen court, and is currently a co-editor of the yearbook. Over the years, Kylie has given back to her community through volunteerism. She has served at church dinners, assisted with the youth basketball program, aided the PALS summer program, and helped out at the Crawford County Fair. Kylie has worked as a farmhand and babysitter for local families. Kylie plans to attend UW-La Crosse next fall to major in biology, with the intention of enrolling in medical school in the future. Kylie would like thank her “friends and family for always believing in [her], especially [her] parents for always pushing [her] to do [her] best in everything.”

Joel is the son of Phillip and Kathy Martin. Joel has also been actively involved throughout his high school career while excelling academically. He has achieved academic honors all four years, earning himself four academic letters/pins. Joel has participated and lettered in cross country and track while in high school. He has also been active in the National Honor Society and FFA.

Furthermore, Joel has been a four-year member of the band and pep band. Outside of school, Joel has participated in  4-H and Boy Scouts since an early age, serving as a senior patrol leader. In addition, Joel has been very involved in his community and church by volunteering at blood drives and at soup/smorgasbord dinners. Joel has been employed as a seasonal worker at Cabela’s for several years. He plans to attend UW-La Crosse next fall to major in archaeological studies. Joel would like to recognize and thank his “parents for providing for [him] and supporting everything [he] does.” Lastly, he would like to recognize and thank his “track coaches for teaching [him] that what [he] puts in, is what [he] will get out and that when you don’t give your full effort, you only hurt yourself.”
